Rave about this: there’s a huge UK bass party this weekend

Featuring a spectrum of fresh faces and scene stalwarts

If you have liquid in the form of funk, drum ‘n’ bass and the like running through your veins, then there’s a festival happening on Saturday that should be right up your alley. Taking place at The Garage in K11, a multi-purpose space that's also hosted fashion and live shows previously, World of Bass will be showcasing bass sounds from the UK in all their gritty and grimy glory: dubstep, garage, drill, jungle and the rest of the explosive rhythms that have shaped the environment for some of the UK’s heftiest underground dance parties.

The event comes courtesy of a three-way collaboration between K11, APF and Phreaktion. Founded by Jane ‘Siesta’ Tan (also closing the show here at 2am), Phreaktion is a local collective that’s been spreading the genre’s electronic gospel across Shanghai and China for over 20 years through its party nights Sewing Room (dedicated to DnB) and Wonky Kong (covering garage, UK Funky and bassline).

On the lineup, you can count some serious talent among the ranks – from both China and abroad, with scene veterans as well as fresh blood from the new generation. Artists assembled include Wonky Kong resident Blanca, Chinese-British DJ producer Litty Ritty (who has sets at hallowed London institutions XOYO and Camden Assembly under his belt), Tom Yeti (the founder of Yeti Out and record label Silk Road Sounds), Khemist (a favourite for low-frequencies and rough beats as well as founder of No Beat No Scene parties and resident at Genome 6.66mpb), Alk (also known around town at times as Kilo-Vee), graffiti artist and grime rapper MC Skutz and China’s ‘Queen of Drum ‘n’ Bass’ herself, Siesta. You can check out the whole schedule here.

Proceedings kick into gear at 3pm with Blanca settling in (or whipping up) the crowd through her bassline house. There’s also an area outside, away from the main stage, that will be celebrating Selector Radio’s 20th anniversary from 3.30-5.30pm. Don't expect much of a Sunday if you plan on being there for the full slog – the whole party is scheduled to run for over 12 hours. To purchase tickets follow the K11 official account by scanning the QR code below, then book via the K11 GO mini programme.
